Controling Time Wasting
Time Wasting can be an expensive past time for your business. Below are some
tactics to prevent time wasting.
- Close your door. Close your office door to discourage interruptions.
- Make appointments with yourself. Set aside blocks of time
for important work and PLANNING.
- Control telephone interruptions. Use voice-mail or have
someone take messages. This allows you to focus on the work at hand; then
you can return calls at your convenience or at a scheduled time that is communicated
to the callers.
- Meetings. Keep meetings to a minimum number and limit attendees
to those needed. Use an agenda.
- Reduce paperwork. Keep memos short. Handle each piece of
paper only once. Cut out unnecessary paper.
- Assertiveness. Give instructions with confidence, which
implies that you expect them to be followed.
- Modify your behavior. Identify your behavior goal. Make
a commitment to develop the new behavior. Plan small actions to use the behavior.
Choose rewards and punishments for reinforcement. Check your progress regularly
and make adjustments as needed.
