Components of a Marketing Plan
As important as the marketing plan is to your business, there are no hard and
fast rules. Marketing plans can differ depending on the size of the business,
the industry or the stage of growth. The actual plan isn’t as important
as the actual process of planning your 'plan of attack' to achieve your goals.
Below is a basic outline of a marketing plan. Please note that this is just
an outline, feel free to add to it.
- Executive Summary
In the executive summary you may want to introduce your company and explain
some of the major points.
- Introduce the nature of your business and explain what your product/service
is that you are offering.
- Create a mission statement – what are you objectives?
- Introduce you team. Who’s responsible for what?
- Include a brief summary of some of the marketing strategies and objectives
- Current Situation
- Provide detail of you current situation. What is your location? Who are
you target market?
- Competitor Analysis
- Include details of your competitors.
- List down some of the challenges
- Marketing Objective
- What are you marketing objective?
- What is it exactly are you trying to achieve? You should also set a
time frame for these objectives.
- Marketing Strategy
Ok, so you have your marketing objectives. Now what are you strategies to
achieve this?
Consider;
- Your Product – what’s s good about your product?
- Price – what are your pricing strategy
- Promotion – describe the promotion tools or tactics that you
will be using.
- Place – Where is the best place to marketing this product?
- Action List
This is a list of things that needs to be done.
- What will be done?
- Who will be doing it?
- When will it be completed?
- Budget
- How much will you be spending?
- Measurements
- Be sure that whatever you are planning to do that it is measurable.
I.e. Sale growth of 20% in 12 months.
